What were some key lessons you gained when you transitioned from being an intern to a full time employee?

The training wheels come right off; you’re no longer a student gaining work experience while waiting for a new semester to start, but a critical member of the team with real responsibilities and accountabilities. I also learned that age truly is just a number. It doesn’t matter if you’re the youngest in the room - if you have the best idea, speak up! Everyone is equal.

What is your advice for students interested in working in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry?

“Fast Moving” doesn’t only apply to the products you sell – it also applies to the very nature of the industry. FMCG is an extremely fast-paced environment so buckle in – expect to work hard but also gain invaluable experience which is viewed favourably in a multitude of industries, should you ever decide to make a career switch in the future.

How can a job applicant stand out in a group interview?

Do your research and show that you care. Everyone else at the interview wants the job, so give interviewers a reason to remember you. Research their brands, history, and company values. Finally, be genuine – hiring managers can tell when you’re putting on a front.
