PhD and MPhil Programs in Statistics

Why research Statistics?

Diverse groups of statisticians are brought together at The Australian National University both from within the University and from Commonwealth Government institutions including the Commonwealth Science and Industry Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), to provide a range of challenging opportunities for graduate students.

The HDR program draws upon the expertise of academic staff throughout the University including the staff of:

  • the Research School of Finance, Actuarial Studies and Statistics (at the ANU College of Business & Economics);
  • the Mathematical Sciences Institute (at the ANU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences);
  • and interested academic staff of other groups such as the School of Demography (ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences), the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health (ANU College of Medicine, Biology and the Environment), and the ANU Statistical Consulting Unit.

Information on current and past student profiles, and support and resources available to HDR students, can be found here.
