Scholarships and Fees


The Australian National University and the College of Business and Economics (CBE) offer a range of scholarships for domestic and international students. CBE's four Research Schools also award scholarships on a case-by-case basis.

You apply for scholarships at the time of admission. There is no separate form - just select which scholarships you would like to be assessed for when applying.

In order to be considered for scholarships in the main rounds of scholarship offers, you have to apply for admission by 15 April (a small mid-year round for both Domestic and International students, by 31 August (main round for International students); and by 31 October (main round for Domestic students).   • Postgraduate Research Scholarship. Each Research School award stipend scholarships on a case-by-case basis based on academic merit. No separate application is required. You will be automatically considered for these scholarship opportunities when you apply for admission.
  • HDR Fee Remission Merit Scholarship. More information here.
  • HDR Supplementary Scholarship (CBE Top Up Scholarship). A supplementary scholarship may be awarded to a student to top up a HDR base stipend scholarship offered by the ANU to assist with living costs or research expenses.

There are no tuition fees for domestic students (Australian and New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents, and holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas) enrolling in a higher degree by research for the first time. Their research training costs are met by the Australian government under the Research Training Scheme.

International students are required to pay tuition fees for the duration of their HDR program. For more information see ANU Indicative Higher Degree Research tuition fees

The ANU College of Business and Economics is offering HDR Fee Remission Scholarships (covers tuition fees up to four years) to all new international PhD students commencing in 2017 who are Honours 1 or equivalent.
