PhD and MPhil Programs in Accounting

The Research School of Accounting offers suitability qualified candidates the opportunity to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Accounting. The PhD program draws upon the supervision expertise of international researchers located within the Research School of Accounting. Career options

  • The PhD program in Accounting at ANU is focused on developing students for a career primarily within academia.
  • Skills developed in the PhD program are however readily transferable. Roles may include senior positions in professional services, business analysis, accounting, finance, auditing, tax, commercial law, or quantitative analysis.

Research Centres

Research in RSA is also facilitated by one ANU research centres and two specialised research groups. PhD students participate in the research forums held by the research centres.

Australian National Centre for Audit and Assurance Research (ANCAAR)

ANCAAR provides a focus for leading research in auditing and assurance services.

Public Sector Accounting Research Group (PSA)

The PSA Research Group has been established to promote research in public sector accounting and related areas, and encourages innovation through cross-disciplinary research.

Corporations, Governance & Society Research Group (CGS)

The CGS Research Group has multidisciplinary interests in researching issues in corporate governance and corporate social responsibility, emphasising the governance of relationships between corporations and their stakeholders through institutions, markets and regulation.

In addition to working with senior academics at ANU, students have the opportunity to network and establish links with leading researchers outside ANU through the RSA Seminar Series and the RSA visitor program. Visitors are typically at the School for periods of up to six months, and they often provide master classes in specialist areas and act as short-term advisers to research students.
