How have your extra-curricular experiences helped you develop your skills, experiences and confidence?

Whilst being at university, I have encouraged myself to get involved in any and every extra-curricular activity that I can. Throughout my four years at university, I have represented the ANU Waterpolo team at the Australian University Championships, worked as Marketing Executive for 180 Degrees Consulting, trained the 2018 Civic2Surf team, volunteered as a baker at The Food Co-op, and engaged with a wide variety of student-run societies and events. These experiences have helped me develop skills, such as communication, confidence and leadership, which allow me to thrive in the professional world. They have also enabled me to make so many valuable friendships and really make the most out of my time at university.

What advice would you give to first year students wanting to get involved with extra-curricular activities like volunteering, Momentum, student societies etc.?

I strongly encourage everyone to involve themselves in all the fantastic programs, events and societies that ANU has on offer. CBE provides an incredible range of extra-curricular activities, such as the MomentuM professional development program and the career-building workshops. I recommend keeping an eye on CareerHub to stay up to date on all these opportunities. If you would like to volunteer, look into the ANU+ Program. Finally, if you’re considering joining a student club or society, reach out and follow them on Facebook so you can hear about their events.
