Dr Sonali Walpola

Biography

Sonali completed a PhD at the ANU College of Law in 2015 and lectures in Commercial Law and Tax Law at the Research School of Accounting (within the ANU College of Business and Economics). Sonali's PhD thesis involves a historical and contemporary analysis of promissory liability in Anglo-Australian law, and identifies core general principles that can explain the law's enforcement of promises across seemingly heterogeneous actions. In addition to promissory liability, Sonali's research interests include the High Court of Australia's role in developing the common law, and Tax Law and Policy. Previously, Sonali worked as a solicitor in the Commercial Litigation and Taxation sections at Allens.
