Biography

Chung Tran is an Associate Professor of Economics, a current member of the Australian Treasury’s expert panel on economic modelling, and an Associate Investigator for the Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research.  Chung’s research explores the conditions under which fiscal interventions including social security, health insurance, progressive taxes, fiscal stimulus and austerity, sovereign debt and fiscal devaluation improve efficiency and welfare. His work has advanced our understanding of social pensions in developing economies, healthcare financing in advanced economies like the US and the optimal design of a tax and transfer system in small, open economies like Australia. Chung’s research has been funded by the Australian Research Council, the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Bank of Japan.

His work has also been published in top-ranked economics journals including Review of Economic Dynamics, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, European Economic Review and Journal of Development Economics.
