Honours lab

CBE Honours lab

Each user of the CBE Honours lab has access to a personalised virtual computer. A virtual computer is accessible from anywhere in the world via any device and is up to 5 times faster than a regular desktop computer. Your virtual computer has 5GB of secured storage for you to save your work which is backed up daily.

Printing facilities are also available to users of the lab.

Free barista coffee service is provided on weekdays as well as quiet areas for group work & reading.

To gain access to the room, please complete a CBE Honours lab access form and submit it to your Honours supervisor.

How can I access my virtual desktop?

You can access your virtual desktop in the CBE Honours lab or using your own device from anywhere in the world.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

For non-lab equipment, you will first need to connect to the ANU VPN.

1. Download and install the relevant VPN service client.
2. Open the VPN client software and configure with the following settings:
3. Connect to anuvpn.anu.edu.au
4. Set Group to ANU
5. Enter username, which is your ANU ID followed by "@anubasic" for staff (eg u1234567@anubasic) or "@student" (eg u1234567@student) for students
6. Enter your ANU password (Horus/ISIS)

How do I access my virtual desktop from home?

You have 2 options, either via your web browser or by installing the VMware client.

How do I access it using my web browser?

  1. Install and connect to the ANU VPN.
  2. Log into the virtual machine web portal.
  3. Use your CBE username and password when prompted (Domain is CBENET). If you do not have an account yet complete the CBE Honours lab access form.
  4. You will be connected to the server and that will bring up the desktop.

The following Web browsers are supported:

  • Chrome 28 or later
  • Internet Explorer 9 or later
  • Safari 5.1.7 or later
  • Firefox 21 or later
  • Mobile Safari on iOS devices running iOS 6 or later

How do I access it using the VMware view client?

  1. Install and connect to the ANU VPN.
  2. Download and install the VMware client here
  3. Once the client has been installed, add cbevirtual.anu.edu.au as the connection server and log in using your CBE username and password.

How do I connect to my ANU home drive?

Follow the instructions to connect to the drive.
