Nafisa Islam, Bachelor of Commerce

Nafisa Islam

Bachelor of Commerce

Nafisa is studying a Bachelor of Commerce (with majors in both Accounting and Finance) at ANU.

Why did you choose ANU?

I chose to study at ANU for a few reasons. I knew it was a prestigious university and I would receive an education of a very high standard. ANU is set apart from other universities in that even though there are many students and it is quite well known and prestigious, the standard of education you receive accompanied by the care and support that is always on hand is unparalleled by any other universities.

I also chose ANU was because of its location. The university is less than a 15 minute drive by car or bus and it is in the heart of Canberra's city. ANU provides a great studying environment as there are many things to do in the Canberra city during breaks but minus the hustle and bustle that you find in other big cities.

Why did you choose your program of study?

The main reason I chose my degree is because I knew it would give me a wide range of options in the long run. As a Bachelor of Commerce graduate with accounting major I not only have the opportunity to do a variety of things within the accounting profession such as tax accounting or auditing but I have the opportunity to be involved in any type of industry

The thing I like most about my program is the constant support I feel I have on hand as a student. For instance if I miss going to a lecture I can view the recording online, if I need reassurance or help on a topic there are tutorials and consultation times on hand.

Your most memorable experiences at ANU so far?

The best aspects of my time at ANU so far would have to be the interactive lectures I have been to. My management lecturer would almost always make as pair up or go into groups and perform role play tasks.

One time I was the 'disobedient employee' and my friend was the 'manager'. We had to act out a scenario where I was constantly on my mobile phone and the manager was trying his best to deal with me in front of everyone in the lecture theatre! This made everyone (including the lecturer) laugh. It's interactive activities like this that make for the most memorable lectures.
