Michael Wijnen, Bachelor of Economics

Michael Wijnen

Bachelor of Economics

Through studying a Bachelor Economics, Michael Wijnen is gaining insight into how society functions.

What are you studying, and why did you choose this degree?

I am studying a Bachelor of Economics because of the field’s relevance to society.

How are you finding your studies so far?

My studies have been really good. I enjoy challenging myself whilst gaining insights into how society functions (or sometimes doesn’t).

What is the best thing about studying at ANU?

Having the opportunity to learn from and become friends with leading academics in fields I find interesting and relevant.

What are your career goals?

After graduating I will probably go into a field where I can apply quantitative methods to economic problems and/or continue studying (do a PhD) with the end goal of becoming a researcher.

If you don’t live on campus, do you have a favourite spot at ANU where you like to hang out?

My favourite place to hang out is the John Dedman building.

What do you enjoy doing outside of your study? Are you involved in any sports, societies or student clubs?

This semester I have been volunteering with 180DC who provide consultancy services to local Not for Profit enterprises. I also enjoy cycling, running, skiing and surfing.

What is your favourite thing about Canberra?

Canberra’s full of good people, great opportunities and excellent bike paths.
