Hui Qi Low, Bachelor of Commerce

Hui Qi Low

Bachelor of Commerce

Hui Qi Low is in her final year, studying a Bachelor of Commerce. Prior to coming to ANU, she did a Bachelor of Business at HELP University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She has made the most of her time in Canberra, through her involvement with the Malaysian Student’s Council in Australia, and also as a Student Ambassador for Study Canberra.

What are you studying, and why did you choose this degree?

I’m studying Bachelor of Commerce (Majoring in Marketing and Finance). What drew me to this degree is the flexibility of combining technical knowledge (finance) and theory-based (marketing). It equips me with the skills I need and provides me with the ability to think out of the box.

How are you finding your studies so far?

I find my course interesting and challenging at the same time. Two of my favourite courses are International Marketing and Entrepreneurship & Innovation.

For a person who was afraid of public speaking, I am now able to do presentations confidently in a room full of people. These two marketing courses provided me opportunities to convert ideas into realities.

I had the chance to be a consultant for a local SME in expanding the market internationally. I also had the opportunity to develop an App in Entrepreneurship & Innovation course. These valuable experiences are undeniably the most attractive elements along my journey in ANU.

What is the best thing about studying at ANU?

Choosing the road less taken, ANU is the best decision I have ever made. ANU provides me world-class education and study experience. Located in Canberra, ANU is a place without distractions. I am able to focus on studies and extra-curricular activities.

What are your career goals?

The internship experience I had with a consulting firm in Malaysia sparked my interest in consulting. Given its project-based nature and steep learning curve, consulting will be able to offer me a challenging learning experience. As an individual who seeks challenges, I believe consulting is the best place to be.

Do you live on campus? If so, how do you find this experience?

I am currently living in a double studio with my friend on campus. One of the perks of living on campus is definitely the strategic location! Most of my classes are 3 minutes away from where I live and city centre is just 10 minutes away, walking distance!

What do you enjoy doing outside of your study? Are you involved in any sports, societies or student clubs?

I am involved in the Malaysian Students’ Council in Australia (MASCA). I help facilitate communications between Malaysian students in Canberra and the Malaysian High Commission. Besides that, I am also a student ambassador for Study Canberra, an Australian Government organisation that promotes Canberra as an international study destination.

What is your favourite thing about Canberra?

The trick to spice up your experience in this small city is joining various events, such as Enlighten, Floriade and Skyfire, just to name a few. The Canberra lifestyle is neither too active that it would be a distraction from studies nor is it too mundane that it would not be able to provide students with an exciting student life.
