Bachelor of Commerce '12

Risk Services Analyst at Deloitte

Why did you choose to study at ANU?

I moved from Nowra on the south-east coast to Canberra in order to begin my Bachelor of Commerce.

Many of my friends thought I was crazy moving to a city characterised by its freezing winters, numerous roundabouts and an overabundance of politicians and public servants, but I was set on going to The Australian National University.

The ANU’s reputation as one of the best universities in the country was what initially attracted me to it, and the flexibility of the Commerce program only further motivated me to make the move to Canberra.

Given the fact that I’ll be graduating with a major in Finance and minors in Management, and Business Law and Professional Ethics I feel as though I have been exposed to a diverse range of subjects and disciplines.

Overall, this exposure has not only encouraged my diversity of knowledge, but it has also broadened my perspective and allowed me to develop skills that are widely applicable.

What are your best memories from your time at ANU?

My experience at ANU has been overwhelmingly rewarding. I have enjoyed living in Canberra, meeting amazing people and studying at an excellent university.

The experiences offered to me by ANU, including the CBE Student Ambassador program, have given me skills and knowledge that I will carry with me throughout my life. The College as a whole proved flexible, providing appropriate assistance whenever it was requested. The quality of lecturers has also been amazing, making me enjoy coming to lectures and learning the material they offered.

Living in College has also considerably enhanced my university experience. There is a fantastic sense of community and, having moved from interstate, the support of this community was a massive advantage in my first year.

How has your time at ANU influenced your career?

I really cannot express how much my time at ANU has helped me grow as a person. I am truly excited to see what the professional world can offer me, and to continue applying the skills learned as part of my university experience.

Overall, the three years I have spent working towards my Bachelor of Commerce have been the most rewarding and eventful of my life. I am thankful for the opportunities that have been offered by my academic program, living in Canberra and in College specifically; I will always be proud to say that I studied Commerce at the ANU.
