Actuarial Analyst at PricewaterhouseCoopers Shanghai

Why did you choose ANU?

I studied high school in Singapore but moved to Canberra to attend university in Australia. I chose ANU because I believe it is a great university that offers a world class education to its students.

I love the flexibility of my combined program - where I chose to major in both Quantitative Finance and Corporate Finance & Investment Management.

The university campus is very beautiful, and my favourite thing about living in Canberra was how it feels like you are in a 'garden city'.

Life after graduation

After graduating two years ago, I am now an actuarial analyst in PricewaterhouseCoopers in Shanghai. My job focus is in life insurance related business. I found the actuarial techniques I learned in many of the ANU actuarial courses are very relevent to what I am doing now. I am able to apply the concepts in real life projects.

My education didn't stop at graduation: I am currently a member of both the Institute of Actuaries Australia (IOAA) and the Society of Actuaries (SOA). The actuarial program at ANU fulfilled Part I requirements for the Actuaries Institute which gave me a great advantage when seeking jobs after graduation.

How has your time at ANU influenced your career?

Though I have to work and study at the same time at the moment, I am able to manage my time well. My experiences at ANU have prepared me very well for that kind of intensiveness. As a previous student ambassador for the ANU College of Business and Economics, I also acquired communication skills which I have since found very useful.

The skills and knowledge I learned from ANU have enabled me to survive and compete in the job market. The ANU experience is all rounded and it has really benefitted me in many aspects of my life after graduation.
