"I chose ANU as it has a long-standing reputation for high-quality research and teaching..."

Why did you choose ANU – and particularly RSA?

Academics at the RSA have research expertise in various areas, including financial accounting, auditing, corporate governance, management accounting, taxation, capital markets and public-sector accounting.  This diversity offers a great opportunity for new PhD students to learn and develop skills from the coursework, explore potential areas of interests and be supervised by highly qualified academics. Also, I learned from my undergraduate and honours study at ANU that RSA academic staff are critical in research but are friendly and approachable. I find it important as completing a PhD is a long journey, I wish to study in a place that makes me feel happy and positive, and it proved that I made the right decision.

What was the benefit for you of a PhD from ANU RSA?

The great PhD supervision I received helps me build a solid foundation in research skills and inspires my passion for research. So, I chose to stay in academia to pursue my interests. I was also fortunate to obtain valuable suggestions on my projects from other academic staff and strong support from the RSA during the period of my PhD studies. The diversity in RSA academics’ research expertise broadens my research perspectives. I am trained to think, solve problems and conduct research independently. When I was on the job market, the RSA excellence in research and my knowledge and skills gained through PhD studies give me confidence at interviews.

What is life like after graduation with a PhD?

I became an academic after graduation with a PhD. I love my job. I work with a group of knowledgeable and smart people and meet world-renowned scholars and eminent professionals at conferences and workshops. I combine my research knowledge and teaching philosophy in my teaching subjects. I also enjoy the flexibility of my job. I can work everywhere and collaborate with people from different places, choose to work with people who share the same vision and enthusiasm. And, I will be having a ‘Dr’ as my title for the rest of my life.
