CBE Venture Lab—Skill Development Stream opens

7 March 2019

The CBE Venture Lab is a space for ANU students and staff to explore, experiment and undertake daring entrepreneurial journeys. Applications for its first series of skill workshops are now open.

The CBE Lab Skill Development Stream (the Stream) is a program for ANU students that runs throughout Semester 1 as a series of five workshops. It is designed to support students who have an innovative idea or an interest in exploring entrepreneurship as a potential career path. Its primary function is to provide students with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to conceive, structure and articulate a venture concept.

At the end of the Stream, students can choose to pitch their concept to the Venture Lab Steering Committee with the chance to receive a small grant and continued support for their project.

The Lab

I faced challenges working on my own project and building a network, but the Venture Lab community was the perfect place to seek professional support.

CBE intends to create campus-wide support for entrepreneurial ventures and to help all ANU students get hands-on experience with developing their ideas and projects, whatever stage of realisation they might be at. The Venture Lab is pushing to make ANU an entrepreneurial leader, both locally and abroad.

The Venture Lab itself is a physical space in the Pap Moran building, just next to Kambri. It is made up of several different rooms that can house boardroom style meetings, computer workspaces, guest speakers and presentations, and a break-out area for unwinding and socialising with other Venture Lab users.

Activation period

Before the start of Semester 1, the Venture Lab held an activation period, during which students could participate in a wide range of events. This included presentations from industry experts, company founders and successful alumni, as well as opportunities for students to develop their own ideas and network.

“Activation week really got me excited about the space. The variety of topics covered, and the diversity of people participating and presenting was even better than I had hoped,” said Victoria Roberts, an active participant at the Lab.
