Contrary to her life in the bustling streets of Vietnam, Thien Tu Nguyen found Canberra to be the exact opposite.

“I love busy cities but Canberra is really small and quiet, and all this initially felt quite alien to me. However, within a few weeks those perceptions began to change as I fell in love with this city and its unique environment. I call Canberra and ANU my new home,” said Thein.

Having lived in Vietnam for a majority of her life, Thien worked in a range of data related roles for over four years. She regards her experience as a data manager in a technology company as a career highlight.

“After I graduated in 2015, I worked in four different organisations to have finally found my comfort with data, especially as a data manager. However, the thought of pursuing higher education always lingered in my mind,” Thien added.

After having gained a wide variety of exposure in the field of data management, Thien decided it was time to gain a professional education that would further shape her career.

She shared that there was a dilemma to decide when I had gained "enough work experience" before I decided to study again.

“What helped me through that dilemma was an understanding that higher education would equip me to handle more responsibilities,” she said. Once Thien overcame her dilemmas, she chose the ANU College of Business and Economics because of the suitable programs.

Thein is currently pursuing a degree in Master of Business Information Systems and is the recipient of the CBE South East Asia Merit Scholarship.

“In addition to the quality of the program, ANU is a very good studying environment for me and many other students. Aside from the academics, the study environment at ANU has immensely contributed to my passion and career,” Thein said.

The ANU College of Business and Economics offers an extensive range of specialised programs in Business Information Systems. Click here for more details.
