Yosafat Simbolon

CBE student interns at the United Nations in NYC

10 May 2018

Masters of Finance student, Yosafat Simbolon, embarked on an opportunity of a lifetime to travel to New York for a 3-month internship with the United Nations.

Yosafat’s internship placement was in the UN Office of the High Representative for Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) – UN-OHRLLS.

His studies at the ANU College of Business and Economics (CBE) sparked his interest in the economic challenges that Least Developed Countries face.

“I was eager to learn how international organizations such as the UN can help them achieve sustainable economic development, and I was even more eager to try implementing my knowledge in finance and economics to this goal,” Yosafat says.

“Ultimately, the internship at the UN granted me access to world class thinkers and leaders,” he continues.

Yosafat will also be one of the students in the first cohort of the MomentuM Professional Development program and is grateful for the experiences thus far at CBE.

2017 was the first year of the MomentuM program was run by ANU College of Business and Economics (CBE). The MomentuM program is dedicated to ensuring CBE students are prepared to successfully navigate the professional landscape by collaborating with industry partners to develop students’ skills they need to assert their place in the job market.

‘I became very aware of professional branding, and how academic excellence is not the deciding factor in securing a good career. The MomentuM program teaches you a wide range of skills that employers seek, and grants you access to many other opportunities through the workshop and networking events,’ says Yosafat.

Student applications for the 2018-19 program are opening soon. Interested students should keep an eye on this page for further information.
