CBE Students Go Global with Summer Scholarships

CBE Students Go Global with Summer Scholarships

25 May 2017

Six high-performing students from the Australia National University (ANU) College of Business and Economics (CBE) have each received a scholarship to study at two elite universities in Shanghai, China, this June.

Andrei Markhachov and Mariah Chang are heading to Fudan University to participate in the 2017 Fudan SOE Summer Camp on Chinese Economy and Society, while Junsi Wang, Hang Zhou, Huihui Wang and Wendong Liu will spend two weeks at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) as a part of the SJTU Global Summer Program.

The scholarships are offered by CBE in partnership with Fudan University and SJTU as a part of a suite of engaged learning opportunities, aimed to increase the employability of students and globalise their educational experience.

“Employers value a global outlook on business, and I think this program will be a great way to learn about China’s economy and political system,” said Fudan scholarship recipient, Andrei Markhachov.

It’s a sentiment supported by SJTU scholarship recipient, Hang Zhou.

“Shanghai is the financial center of China,” he said, “and I look forward to the chance to experience the business environment in China as well as networking with professionals from the industry.”

Wendong Liu and Junsi Wang see the opportunity to study in Shanghai as having both personal and professional benefits.

“This is quite a wonderful chance for me to expand my horizons,” said Liu.

“This experience will help me build my confidence and help me to gain a better sense of my own strengthens and weakness in looking for suitable jobs,” said Wang.

Associate Professor Vinh Lu, Director of Engaged Learning at CBE, said, “Fudan University and SJTU offer world class education. Their summer programs will provide our students with excellent insights on Chinese business culture and government policies that shape global economic growth.

“We trust the students will make the most of their learning opportunities in Shanghai and thank our colleagues at Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University for having provided the scholarships for CBE students.”
