Finance teacher awarded national teaching award

19 December 2017

ANU has won five coveted 2017 Australian Awards for University Teaching, announced by Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham.

Dr Anna von Reibnitz, from the ANU Research School of Finance, Actuarial Studies & Statistics won the 2017 Award for Teaching Excellence (Teaching Award) in the Law, Economics, Business and Related Studies Category.

“It’s a tremendous honour to receive this award,” Dr von Reibnitz said.

“Too often we forget that our goal as academics is not only to advance the boundaries of knowledge but to pass that knowledge on and to inspire our students to have a passion for learning.”

Dr von Reibnitz said her award was testament to the student centric educational experience ANU students receive.

“I’m deeply grateful to my College and the ANU for their support in developing innovative education experiences through initiatives such as our Student Managed Fund, in which our top students manage real money with profits assisting in the funding of prizes and scholarships. The ANU has long been recognized for the quality of its research but, particularly under our current leadership, we are proving that our teaching too stands among the best.”

Dr Bronwen Whiting, Acting Interim Dean at the ANU College of Business and Economics congratulated Anna on her award.

“It is always wonderful to see our staff recognised by our national peers,” said Dr Whiting.

“We are proud of the quality education CBE students receive, and it is very much owed to the hard work and dedication of educators like Anna who are deeply committed to enhancing the quality of learning and teaching here at CBE.”

Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt congratulated the Awards for Teaching Excellence winners.

"ANU strives to provide the best possible student experience and relies upon the amazing work of our exceptional teachers," Professor Schmidt said.

"On behalf of the University, I congratulate Katrina, Jason, Anna, Jeremy and John on their well-deserved recognition."
