Stanley Choi

CBE Welcomes Dr Stanley Choi

31 August 2016

Business and economics at ANU continues to firmly stake its place at the heart of public policy debate and development in Australia with the arrival of Dr Stanley Choi, whose work on continuous disclosure of regulation in Australia has sparked interest from industry and government.

Dr Choi, who joined the CBE’s Research School of Accounting earlier in the year, brings a wealth of knowledge in financial accounting, capital markets and accounting regulations.

Dr Choi graduated with a PhD from Macquarie University - his thesis focussed on an analysis of the effectiveness of the public policy of continuous disclosure regulation in Australia, the results of which suggest the policy has been effective.

Cross-discipline collaboration will play a central role in Dr Choi’s research. “Interestingly the continuous disclosure regulation is modelled on enforcement theory developed by Professor John Braithwaight from the ANU College of Law,” says Dr Choi.

“There are a lot of good people at this school, they are very good researchers. Being a young researcher I will hope to learn through collaboration. So what I want to achieve in the time that I am here is to broaden my area of expertise by working with some of my other colleagues.”

The work of Dr Choi feeds directly into the CBE research theme of Wealth and Well-being which encompasses issues that influence communities, societies and economies and the maintenance of high quality of life in the face of economic, demographic, and environmental change.

For now Dr Choi is enjoying teaching BUSN1002 Accounting Processes and Systems, a foundation class for Business and Economics at ANU.
