CBE students build research experience

17 February 2016

Over the summer break, 16 postgraduate students from the College of Business and Economics undertook Summer Research Scholarships, to build valuable research experience and skills.

The scholarships were an ideal opportunity for students who are considering going on to do a PhD to see whether they enjoy the research experience.

The scholars worked closely with an academic supervisor, who mentored them as they worked through complex research projects in their chosen field. For their efforts, each scholar received a $300/week stipend.

At the completion of their Scholarships, the students then presented their research findings to academic colleagues in the Research Schools.

At a lunch celebrating the culmination of the Summer Research Scholarships, Associate Professor Ofer Zwikael, CBE’s Associate Dean (HDR) addressed the students, and said he was impressed with their efforts and the research work they had undertaken.

“I congratulate each of the students for stepping out of their comfort zones and trying something new.

“There’s no way of knowing if you enjoy research until you dip your toes in the water and do it, so I hope the students have come away with a better understanding of how research works and whether it’s for them. For those who have enjoyed the experience, we hope they think about going on to undertake their PhD.”

Student Yajur Chadha said he enjoyed experiencing the different facets of research, and had gained valuable connections and knowledge while undertaking a Summer Research Scholarship at CBE.

“The Scholarship gave me an opportunity to explore and contribute to the vast project management literature and develop a framework for measuring Information Systems project success. I thoroughly enjoyed myself while researching about prior work done in this field and analysing their shortcomings.

“I am really thankful to Ofer Zwikael and Alex Richardson for supporting me and extending a helping hand whenever I needed.”
