GBI Dubai Info Session #2

Info session #2: GBI Dubai Summer 2020

CBE is offering a faculty-led 2-week study tour to Dubai in January 2020. The course leader is Dr Andrew Bradlyfrom the Research School of Management.

The UAE plays a critical role as a hub for trade in goods, finance, education, energy, and tourism in the Middle East. Given the region’s geo-political and economic importance, participating students will learn about Dubai’s pivotal role in the region through three types of learning activities. First, students will hear lectures from academics and consultants based in Dubai to understand its history, culture, economy, and business conditions. Second, through site visits and presentations from senior management, students will gain insights into the strategy and operations of major firms in industries such as tourism, logistics, construction, and aviation. Finally, students will experience the rich Arab history and culture of Dubai through visits to sites such as the Dubai Museum, Jumeriah Mosque, Sheikh Mohammad Centre for Cultural Understanding, Hatta village, and the desert environment outside Dubai. As Dubai prepares to host World Expo in 2020 this is an exciting time to experience a city that has transformed itself from a small fishing village to a major global hub of industry and trade.

The study tour will provide an opportunity for up to 26 undergraduate students to travel to Dubai in January (in-country days) plus travel time. There will be up to 2 CBE Global Business Immersion Grants for eligible Australian students.

This course is open to all undergraduate students of the ANU College of Business and Economics (CBE), with preference given to CBE students who have completed at least 96 units of their program at the time of applying. The course counts towards a List 1 elective in any CBE undergraduate program and towards the International Business, Management and Marketing majors.

Students from other ANU Colleges will need to seek enrolment approval and program advice from their respective Colleges.
