Designing User Assistance in Interactive Intelligent Systems

Designing User Assistance in Interactive Systems

Information technology (IT) capabilities are increasing at an impressive pace and resulting intelligent systems are ever present in today’s world. However, users’ cognitive abilities are not developing at the same speed. In order to close the gap between humans and intelligent systems, creating and extending design knowledge for the class of interactive intelligent systems becomes increasingly important.

In this talk, presenter Prof. Alexander Maedche specifically motivates the need for research on user assistance in interactive intelligent systems and suggest a conceptualisation distinguishing supporting, cooperative, and informing user assistance.

About the Presenter

Dr. Alexander Maedche is full professor, head of the research group “Information Systems & Service Design” and Director of the Institute of Information Systems and Marketing (IISM) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany. From 2009-2015 he was chairperson of the Chair of Information Systems IV at the Business School, University of Mannheim and academic director of the Mannheim & Tongji Executive MBA Program at Mannheim Business School gGmbH.

The focus of the research work of Alexander Maedche and his research group is designing interactive intelligent systems. His work is published in leading international journals and conferences such as Journal of the Association of Information Systems (JAIS), Information & Software Systems Technology, Business & Information Systems Engineering (BISE), IEEE Intelligent Systems, SIGMOD Record, AI Magazine, and the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) as well as the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS).
