CBE HDR Retreat

CBE HDR Retreat

The CBE HDR Retreat venue is the Coachhouse Marina Resort at Batemans Bay http://www.coachhouse.com.au/.  The retreat will be held in the second week of the mid-semester break on Mon 4 and Tues 5 September 2017.

The goal is to bring together PhD/MPhil students from all years and academic staff from across the College, in an informal setting, to share experiences of the PhD and MPhil process, to provide opportunities to discuss and recieve feedback on thesis work and and to workshop HDR topics. The retreat also provides participants with an opportunity to get to know staff and students from other Research Schools and year groups as well as their own.

The retreat also provides supervisors with the opportunity to complete the College Research Supervision Certificate.

Workshops

Workshops are designed to be relevant to both new and experienced HDR students and academic staff with the HDR topics varying between years. The key workshop sessions in the program are:

Accommodation

  • Workshops and meals are in the resort's conference facilities
  • Sleeping accommodation is in single rooms in nice cabins
  • All cabins have a kitchenette, lounge and bathroom
  • All linen is provided and beds made
  • Towels are also provided (just need to bring your beach towel)
  • All cabins have heating and cooling (reverse cycle aircon)
  • Free Wi-Fi is available throughout resort
  • Change rooms - the conference building has bathrooms on both floors and change rooms on the ground floor
  • Luggage can be stored in the Board Room or back up conference room (both left at top of stairs)

Transport

A Murrays Coach has been hired and will leave from outside the Drill Hall Gallery on Monday morning. Please be there by 8.20am latest for departure at 8.30am sharp. The coach will arrive at camp by around 11am in time for morning tea. (The return coach will leave after afternoon tea, boarding 3.30pm to leave 3.40pm on Tuesday to arrive at the Drill Hall around 5.40pm approx.)

If you are unable to travel by coach and need to travel by car, please arrive by 11am.  First session commences at 11.30am. 

Meals

Catering has been arranged (and will include Vegetarian and Halal) for both days. Please advise in your registration if you have any special dietary requirements.

All costs for the HDR Retreat are covered by the College except the purchase of alcohol. Please see the email invite for further information.
