What is 3MT?

3MT is the Three Minute Thesis Competition for research students* to showcase their research and gain public speaking experience.

Competitors have to talk about what their research is and why it is important in plain language for three minutes, with only a single PowerPoint slide. It is not about your research results as it is about how effectively you as a competitor can communicate what your research thesis is about and it's value. (*Eligibility information below.)

ANU 3MT Launch is on Tues, 18 July 2017, 5:30-7:30pm at the new Pop-Up Village and is a great way you can find out more about the competition. Workshops for cometitors and any other interested HDR (PhD or MPhil) students.

The goal of 3MT

3MT's goal is to have a fun event with an important and valuable purpose of developing research students academic, presentation and research communication skills, while also developing your ability to effectively explain your research in language easily understood by a non-specialist audience.

Competitor support & ANU 3MT Program

ANU has a fantastic 3MT workshop presentatation program run by Dr Inger Mewburn to provide training and support to the competitors. As well as being essential for competitors, any HDR students interested in improving their public speaking skills are welcome to register for any of the workshops for 2017:
