Associate Status

The Chartered Institute of Company Secretaries in Australia is the professional association for company secretaries and corporate managers in Australia.  It is also the Australian Division of the international professional body, The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Academic Requirements

The academic requirements for membership require applicants to hold either an approved business degree majoring in Accounting, Finance or Management, or an approved law degree, followed by the successful completion of the Institute's own professional examinations.  The Bachelor of Commerce at the ANU is an accredited degree for the purposes of associate membership.

Students are then required to complete the Institute's own courses in:

  • Applied Corporations Law
  • Company Secretarial Practice and Meetings
  • Corporate Governance

Graduates of a combined degree with Law are also exempt from the Institute unit Applied Corporations Law.

Graduates of single degree in Law (LLB) are required to complete the institute's own courses in

  • Accounting for Managerial Decisions
  • Financial Management
  • Company Secretarial Practice and Meetings
  • Corporate Governance
