Accreditation Requirements

As of November 2005 the Australian Institute of Banking and Finance no longer exists. It has merged with the Securities Institute of Australian to become FINSIA.

FINSIA allows any graduate working in the finance industry to join as an Associate. Their degree does not need to be in finance and there are no prescribed courses.

The FINSIA Senior Associate level requires 3 years of relevant work experience plus a postgraduate degree.

FINSIA Fellowship requires 5 years of relevant work experience and the FINSIA Master of Applied Finance and Investment only (other degrees are not acceptable).

Advanced standing in FINSIA's own awards (eg their Graduate Diploma and Masters degrees) is possible however it is not done at the institution level, that is university courses are not pre-approved for advanced standing. Students may apply for advanced standing in FINSIA degrees on a case by case basis. See http://www.finsia.edu.au/Education/Advanced_Standing,_RCC_and_Assessment_Only Each exemption applied for costs $210.

The Chartered Financial Analyst designation is a globally recognised standard for professionals.  ANU graduates may take the exams required for CFA status through either the Melbourne or Sydney branches of the CFA Institute.
