She is also keen to expand her research horizon towards derivatives, fixed income securities and funds management.  She regularly attends and presents in local and international conferences.  She has also been a regular participant in the Financial Integrity and Research Network (FIRN) organised seminars and conferences.

  • The roles and functions of the Australian Commonwealth Government Securities market: An international comparison with Prof. Smith, Prof. O’Neill, Prof Ng, Dr. Oliver, Dr. Roberts and Dr. Benson.
  • The impact of government surplus budgets on the Treasury bond market with Prof. Tom Smith, Prof. Ross Maller, Dr. Barry Oliver and Dr. Steven Roberts.

  Further Information
Shumi is a regular internal and external grant holder.  Some of her current research projects are funded through college internal grants and has been a regular active participant in applying for Australian Research Council - Discovery Grants.  Also, she has received a number of research scholarships during her PhD studies.

  Brief Biography
Shumi Akhtar is an assistant professor/lecturer in the School of Finance and Applied Statistics at the Australian National University.  She teaches various postgraduate and undergraduate courses in Finance and Statistics.  She has recently (2008) graduated from PhD and committed to conduct good research and publish in top tier journals.
