CBE Procedures For Externally Funded Grants & Consultancies

All externally funded grants and consultancies undertaken at the
ANU College of Business and Economics must adhere to the procedures outlined
below in order to ensure adherence to ANU policy.

1. Application stage
The CBE Research Services Office and the Business Office can provide
assistance to researchers in their preparation of funding applications as
follows:

- Seek advice on behalf of
applicant from the Legal Office regarding IP/contract clauses
etc
- Seek advice on behalf of the
applicant from the funding body/ANU Research Office with regards
to general queries

examples of previously successful applications

2. Submission stage
The RO-AP1 (Authority to apply) form must be completed before the
application/tender can be forwarded to the funding body.
ALL
applications for external funding require Head of School support and the
support of the Dean, CBE.
The
Researcher
- Complete appropriate sections of
RO-AP1 form
- Forward application + RO-AP1 form to
your Head of School to sign
- Forward signed RO-AP1 form with a copy
of your application to the CBE Research Services Office

- Check application (if appropriate)
- Obtain sign-off from the Business Office
and the Dean
- Enter the application onto the ANU
database and file
3. Receipt of grant/consultancy
The funding body sends notification of
success and a contract to the researcher at which point, the researcher will
either accept the contract or, if appropriate, have the CBE Research
Services Office seek legal advice on possible modifications. The RO-AC1
(Authority to accept external funds) form must be completed before the
application/tender can be processed and accounts set up. ALL
acceptances of external funding must be signed off by the Head of School,
the Business Office, and the Dean, CBE.
The
Researcher
- Complete appropriate sections of
RO-AC1 form
- Forward contract/agreement + RO-AC1 form
to your Head of School to sign
- Forward signed RO-AC1 form +
contract/agreement to the CBE Research Services Office
Research Services Office
- Obtain sign-off from the Business Office
and the Dean
- Enter the application onto the ANU
database and file

Forward copy of contract + RO-AC1 form to Finance for appropriate accounts
to be set up and invoices sent where appropriate.
4. Management of the grant/consultancy
Depending on the nature and scope of the
project, the following issues may be relevant to note:
Human Ethics Clearance
Ethical clearance is required for all
research that involves human participants, such as use of questionnaires or
interviews. Instructions for lodging a human research ethics application
and the application form can be found at:

Appointment of staff
The researcher is to liaise with the
Business Office in the first instance.
Project variations
Funding bodies vary in their treatment of
variations. Many will have procedures built into their contract/agreement.
For advice on requesting and submission of variations please contact the CBE
Research Services Office.
Reporting and milestones
This is something which will vary
depending on the funding body however advice and queries regarding reporting
can be directed to the CBE Research Services Office in the first instance.
Completion of project
Completion of reporting requirements as designated by the funding body.
Advice can be sought from the CBE Research Services Office and financial
reports can be sought from the Business Office.
