PhD Program in Economic History

Introduction

PhD Candidates in the Economic History discipline complete a program of research enabling them to complete a research thesis, and to develop a breadth of knowledge and depth of understanding expected of PhD graduates in Economic History in the academic, commercial and public spheres.

Program Structure

Individual PhD program structure is negotiated with each candidate.  Some coursework may be included in the program, in combination with supervised reading courses and courses in research techniques and methods applicable to economic history.

In the later years, candidates work solely on their research thesis with direction from their academic supervisor.  A committee of examiners is appointed who assess the research thesis, their assessment determines whether the PhD award is granted to the Candidate.

Dates

Entry to the course is available at any time. However, any coursework courses that may be required are offered over two semesters commencing in March and July each year.
