Overview
The Master of Philosophy (Finance) is designed for graduates who wish to
develop advanced research skills in Finance. It is a fully research based
program in which an essential element is a 60,000 word thesis on an approved
topic.
The Master of Philosophy (Finance) is an excellent research-based preparatory
course for students intending to proceed to PhD studies in the
Doctor of Philosophy (Finance).
Admission
- Applicants are required to hold a Bachelors degree with Honours of at least 2A
(75-79%) level in finance.
- Applicants who do not satisfy the minimum entry standard may enter through
satisfactory completion of a preparatory program such as the
Master of Financial Management.
- Applicants should discuss their proposed program of study and topic for
their research with a staff member before submitting an application.
- Entry to the program is not automatic, and is at the discretion of the
Dean.
- English language proficiency requirements must
be met.

Program Structure - Thesis
The MPhil is made up of a research thesis, comprising original research study
of up to 60,000 words. Students are assigned a supervisor who has
responsibility for the oversight of the research. Supervisors are assigned
in consultation with the candidate and are normally full-time members of the
academic staff with expertise in the study area.

Transfer to PhD Studies
Students in the MPhil may apply to transfer to a PhD course such as the
Doctor of Philosophy (Finance). Such transfers
are normally approved after the candidate has demonstrated that they have a
viable research topic of sufficient scope and depth and has demonstrated
research capabilities required in the PhD.
Transfer to a PhD would not normally occur until the candidate has been
enrolled in the Master of Philosophy for at least 6 months fulltime (or part
time equivalent).
