Language Proficiency Requirements

Students who have completed their undergraduate qualification in a language other than English must demonstrate an acceptable standard of English competence before applying for entry to the ANU.

For postgraduate coursework and research programs in business and economics the ANU requires that students have either : -

  • An IELTS overall band score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component or;
  • A TOEFL score of 570 (paper based test) or 230 (computer based test) and a TWE of 4.5.

Prospective students will also need to comply with the Australian Government's English Proficiency requirements for a student visa. These vary from country to country and only the results of the IELTS test are acceptable from some countries.

Students for coursework programs with an IELTS of 6.0 (no band below 5.0) may take the ANU College Access English course in order to meet the ANU entry requirements.

The Access English course is not acceptable for intending PhD students.
