Overview
The Bachelor of e-Commerce integrates the subjects students need to develop a
thorough understanding of all the e-commerce skills employers seek.
The program aims to provide students with knowledge in three key areas:
- Business and commerce theory and practice, including accounting, marketing
and legal knowledge.
- E-Commerce and technology knowledge, to support the development of
e-commerce systems and solutions in business, including strategic planning,
systems analysis and design and basic knowledge of programming, databases and
networks for e-commerce
- Human and societal issues, including project and change management, human
factors in computer use, adoption behaviour, ethical, legal and security
issues in e-commerce, and societal impacts.
Why study e-commerce at the ANU?
Few universities have the strengths underlying the ANU e-commerce program:
- The Faculty of Economics and Commerce has a well-recognised reputation in
commerce and related disciplines, and a well-established business information
systems program
- The Faculty has strong links to the technology courses offered by the ANU
Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology
- The ACT has one of the highest levels of internet access in Australia and
is the 'jurisdiction whose economy is likely to benefit the most over the next
five years from e-commerce.' (NOIE, e-Commerce across Australia, 2000)
Careers with an e-Commerce degree
A career in e-commerce isn't just about IT. A search of on-line
recruitment companies shows some of the types of jobs an e-commerce graduate can
expect to find:
- E-commerce developer - develop and manage web applications to implement a
company's business vision
- Web consultant - design and develop internet and intranet solutions such
as online sales facility
- Business analyst - develop and recommend detailed e-commerce project
objectives
- Business Solutions Manager - manage a team to develop and implement
e-commerce solutions in business
- E-commerce consultant - determine customer requirements and identify
relevant e-commerce solutions.
