Professor Tom Smith -
Finance
ANU offers an American style PhD in Finance.
PhD students are offered coursework in the initial first two years, however,
research is the key focus. Here at ANU, PhD students learn the state of the
art in their field and how to do research.
As a supervisor, Tom’s door is always open
and a PhD student can come and see him, call him on his mobile, or e-mail
him whenever they have a question or an issue.
Tom has an established track record in the US
and Australia of turning out high quality academics from the PhD program.
Many of Tom’s former students are now tenured Professors in the US and
Australia and regularly achieve Tier 1 publications.
Professor Steve Dowrick
– Economics
ANU offers its PhD economics students a full year of intensive
graduate coursework, which brings them close to the research frontier across
a range of subjects. It also introduces them to Professors who might become
their supervisors.
A student interested in higher degree research in economics
should consider ANU because it has Australia's best group of research
economists who can supervise students to the highest international
standards. An important benefit is that many students publish their work in
international refereed journals even before they have submitted their
thesis.
My research interests include work on economic growth and
international comparisons of real income.
