Overview

Honours at the ANU College of Business and Economics is an elite and challenging program for top students.  It requires a fourth year of additional study beyond the three year Bachelor Degree (or combined degree equivalent).  The Honours program may be undertaken full or part time.

Generally the Honours program includes a coursework component (4 courses to the value of 24 units).  The remainder of the Honours program (24 units) consists of research which leads to the writing of a thesis.   A thesis is like an essay and is based on original research.

Honours can be seen as either the culmination of an undergraduate degree program or as the take off point for a higher degree.

How to apply for the Honours Year

Existing ANU students thinking of doing an Honours year should make themselves known to the program convener for the relevant Honours program at the start of their third year of study.

The Honours Conveners are:

Students from other Australian universities are encouraged to consider doing their Honours year at the ANU.  They should contact the program convener at the start of their final year of study.  Students from other universities may find the information on the Undergraduate webpage useful as it contains information on fees and on-campus accommodation.

Places for Honours are strictly limited and are competed for on the basis of academic merit.  Students need to complete an application form SASS11 [110kb PDF] and submit it by the relevant closing date.
 

Honours Scholarships

The ANU College of Business and Economics has a number of scholarships available to Honours students. Applications for semester 1 2010 close 1 December 2009.

In addition there is also the ANU Honours Scholarship which is a university wide scholarship.

Honours Facilities

Students have access to a College Honours Centre, located in the Copland Building.  The College Information Technology group manages all aspects of the Centre.  The centre is equipped with 16 PC workstations loaded with a variety of statistical and database applications, access to high speed printers and a photocopier.

Students are required to register with the College IT Group in the first instance to have access to the room established and a computer account set up.
