For more than 40 years, the ANU produced some of Australia's most influential leaders in economics, business, finance
and politics. From 2006 the ANU Faculty of Economics and Commerce and the National Graduate School of Management have
joined to form the ANU College of Business and Economics. The College Alumni Relations Office serves the needs of all
ANU business and economics graduates and provides an expanded level of service to alumni.

ANU College of Business and Economics Alumnus new Chief of Navy
An Alumnus of the ANU College of Business & Economics is among those promoted to top positions in the
recent round of Defence appointments announced by Prime
Minister Julia Gillard. Rear Admiral Ray Griggs was promoted
to the rank of Vice Admiral and taking up the role of Chief of
Navy on 4 July 2011.
VADM Griggs is a graduate of the MBA program at
ANU, completing his degree in 2000. He was a recipient of
the Pauline Griffin Prize in Organisational Behaviour, the
Management Services AG Prize in International Business
Strategy and the Westpac Banking Corporation Prize for
overall academic achievement.
VADM Griggs has served in the Australian Navy since
1978. His career has included command of the Anzac Class
frigate HMAS Arunta which was deployed to enforce UN
sanctions against Iraq in the Persian Gulf and for which he
was awarded a Commendation for Distinguished Service in
2003. He is also a recipient of the Conspicuous Service Cross,
and was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in
2009, the year in which he was promoted to the rank of Rear
Admiral. For the past 14 months VADM Griggs has held the
role Deputy Chief of Joint Operations.
